My name is Alison Taylor and it is the honour of my life to be selected as Scottish Labour’s Westminster Parliamentary Candidate for Paisley & Renfrewshire North in the General Election on 4 July 2024.

I hope to have the privilege of becoming the next MP to represent this seat being a Labour voice for this area and Scotland.

If elected, I will be helping influence what happens here in this diverse seat which hugs the River Clyde from Langbank to Glasgow and takes in two colleges, a university, an international airport and a vast industrial hinterland – so much untapped potential and infrastructure that requires capital investment, regeneration and as we transition to a greener future de-carbonisation.

I am rooted in this community and have been working in business for the last 30 years in Glasgow and Renfrewshire. In 2017, I helped campaign against the closure of the Children’s Ward at the RAH – something that was important to me personally as a mum.

Now is the time for a Labour Government and the only way to achieve a Labour Government is by voting Labour.

If elected as your MP, I will be working as part of a Labour Gov., not sitting on the sidelines in protest. A Government that will improve our public services, investing £135 million more into the NHS in Scotland, by closing down tax loopholes.

We need to rebuild our county together. Labour will deliver opportunities for all by growing the economy and creating a new green energy company headquartered here in Scotland creating jobs and bringing down energy bills.”

My promises to you
  1. We will manage better the transition to green energy and net zero technologies of tomorrow.
  2. If elected I will use my 30 years as a chartered surveyor and in leadership roles to bring my life experiences and team building skills to the role so I can help deliver new opportunities for investment in our town centres, public transport and infrastructure. I will be a strong voice for Scotland at Westminster.
  3. I am proud to call this area my home, having worked and gone to school in Glasgow and graduated from university in Paisley in Land Economics before becoming a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

I promise to be a hard working constituency based MP fighting for these communities. I will hold surgeries throughout the seat but will also find new innovative ways of staying in touch with the people who live here; continuing, as I have always done since first selected as a candidate back in 2017, to regularly chap on the doors of constituents to pro-actively hear what is on your mind.

“I gave birth to one of my daughters in Glasgow, the other one in Paisley so this area will always mean everything to me.”
I would also like to express my thanks to the former Labour MP Jim Sheridan who held the Paisley and Renfrewshire seat in various forms prior to 2015.

I am grateful for his support during my previous election campaigns. Jim sadly passed away in 2022 and his former constituents still ask for him on the doors. A great trade union man he would be proud of the new deal for working people Labour will implement as a key priority. As a member of both Community trade union and GMB- I know how important it is for a trade union to have your back as an employee when you need it and equally many employers now actively encourage their staff to join a union too.
